At the interchange between I-5 on
two other local state routes, 18 and
161, the project focused on rerouting connections with new overpasses and corresponding demolition and installation of a variety of landscape features. A study of the site’s existing and proposed functions generated a list of issues including the need to clear vegetation, accommodate a creek through two of the cloverleaves, retain stormwater onsite, maintain safe viewing corridors and provide beautiful plantings for drivers. A later phase of work put these findings into physical form, designing an interchange with solutions for grading and drainage, detention ponds locations, and visual clarity for drivers.
